It seems that the Dark Knight isn’t the only one that has been taking flight lately. The Batman was released to audiences worldwide just this past weekend. And so far, the movie is on an excellent track for success. Between Bruce Wayne’s gritty rendition of the Bat and the interesting villains, it’s no wonder. One of those villains is The Penguin, known by many as Gotham’s original crime boss. Thanks to director Matt Reeves and Colin Farrell’s outstanding efforts, Penguin will have its own story to tell. Today, it was officially announced that HBO Max would be creating a limited series currently titled The Penguin.
Penguin Is One of Gotham’s Oldest Villains
Anyone who has followed Batman extensively knows the Penguin and understands the interest HBO Max holds. Also known as Oswald Cobblepot, the Penguin’s family is one of the largest and oldest in Gotham. Over time, as Gotham descends into madness, Oz turns the family to crime instead. Anyone who may have seen Gotham will recognize the character well. With a pension for pennies and a penguin-like look, he sinks his teeth into the Gotham underground. And with it comes one of Gotham’s most famous rogues.
Farrell and Crew Are Ready to Explore
If it weren’t for the credits, most people wouldn’t even know Colin Farrell was the Penguin in this movie! Farrell himself has gone into detail about the long transformation. He mentions it feels freeing since he looks so different he can truly become someone else. Farrell has also mentioned that the Penguin series at HBO will give the team a chance to explore Matt Reeve’s The Batman universe. And in his opinion, who better to do so than Oswald Cobblepot of the criminal underground? The show is expected to be a limited drama series to help delve deeper into what could be a powerful trilogy of Batman and a new modern legacy.
